Destination overview

About this destination

Corsica is a French island in the Mediterranean, north of Sardinia. Ajaccio and Bastia are two of its principal cities. Mountains rise sharply inland, creating a contrast with the coastal bays and beaches.

The island has a distinct Corsican language and cultural identity. Stone villages, old churches and hilltop settlements reflect its history. Bonifacio is known for its position above limestone sea cliffs.

The island's interior contains forests, lakes and rugged walking routes, including the GR20. Corsica's maritime setting, local food traditions and long relationship with both France and Italy give it a character of its own.
