Destination overview

About this destination

Pakistan lies in South Asia, with a coastline on the Arabian Sea. Islamabad is its capital, while Karachi is a major port. The Indus River is central to its agricultural geography and history.

Northern regions include parts of the Himalaya, Karakoram and Hindu Kush mountain systems. Urdu is the national language, and English also has an official role. Regional languages and traditions differ across the country.

The archaeological remains of the Indus Valley civilisation preserve an ancient chapter of settlement. Lahore's historic buildings, coastal trade and northern mountain landscapes illustrate very different aspects of Pakistan's identity.

Professional assignment

My connection

In 1999, I worked for DCNI as an electrical and instrumentation instructor, training Karachi shipyard workers in France and Karachi. This assignment is documented in the caption accompanying my Agosta 90 B photograph on my original website.
