South Korea

Destination overview
About this destination
South Korea occupies the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. Seoul is its capital and a major urban centre. Mountain ranges cover much of the interior, with cities and farmland in valleys and coastal areas.
Korean is the national language. Busan is an important port, while the southern coast includes many islands. Historic palaces, temples and traditional neighbourhoods preserve earlier cultural layers.
Shipbuilding, electronics and manufacturing form a prominent industrial dimension. Geoje's shipyards illustrate the relationship between coastal geography and large-scale engineering, alongside the country's varied food traditions and contemporary cultural influence.
My connection
My CV records an early offshore electrical-supervision assignment on Amenam in Korea in 2002–2004, involving generation equipment, commissioning and maintenance preparation. From 2019 to 2021, I returned to Geoje on the ENI Coral project at Samsung as electrical, instrumentation and telecom construction manager, following substations, heat tracing and the handover of electrical packages.
