Destination overview
About this destination
Sweden lies in northern Europe on the Scandinavian Peninsula. Stockholm is its capital and is spread across islands and waterways. Forests and lakes occupy much of the landscape.
The Baltic coast contrasts with mountain country near Norway. Swedish is the principal language, while Sámi heritage is important in the north. Seasonal daylight changes become especially pronounced at higher latitudes.
Historic trading towns coexist with modern industrial and university cities. Design, engineering and outdoor traditions contribute to an identity that connects urban life with a strong relationship to forests, water and the wider Nordic region.
